Last year's shipping bill, HB 393 is still "live"

HB 1088 sponsored by Chairman Butch Parrish and Representatives Ron Stephens, Roger Williams, Vance Smith, Mickey Channell and Earl Ehrhart will provide DOT and GDEcD the ability to develop signage for agricultural tourism attractions. Greetings everyone,

The Governor announced last week a slowing rate of growth for the state's revenue collections, and as a result has reduced the revenue estimates for FY '08 and FY '09 by $310 million. Because of these changes, the General Assembly revised the adjournment schedule - HR 1148 - and the session's pace will now be much slower.

Included in the Governor's suggested budget reductions are:

Department of Community Affairs
  • $275,000 to implement the comprehensive coastal plan

Georgia Department of Economic Development

Crossover Day, the last day in which legislation can pass one of the lawmaking bodies, saw the Senate pass 44 pieces of legislation, adjourning around 5:30 PM, while the House passed 67 bills and resolutions. Among the affirmed House legislation was a modified tax reform plan and HB 1399 which provides a $2 per room "destination services fee" to fund sports tourism, parks and recreation.

We have identified two house bills, HB 1168 and HB 302, as legislation that can potentially be amended to include HB 1094, which, even though it passed unanimously out of committee, failed to receive a floor vote in the House.

The Gwinnett Stadium bill, SB 454, was amended to include Sunday alcohol sales, and that bill is expected to move quickly to the House floor.

A heavy schedule of committee meetings is expected this week, as both chambers begin to consider the other's legislation in earnest.
